All of us have experienced difficult financial times, and some of us are currently dealing with rough times. These monetary setbacks can result in undesirable credit scores and can make it nearly impossible to secure credit from any lender.

Thankfully, there is a way out of this dilemma. You can start by building positive marks on your report, that will help your score. The difficult part is finding a lender that will give you the chance to do this.

Usually a card has a limit, and you are able to purchase goods and services up to that limit. You are required to make a minimum monthly payment set by the lender, and there is usually interest charged for any unpaid balance every month.

However you may only be able to qualify for a secured or a prepaid offer. Below you will find brief descriptions of how these work.

In addition, you may qualify for an unsecured offer. However this will have a high interest rate and many fees.

Prepaid

With a prepaid card, you first make a deposit into your account and then can use it to make purchases. Your purchases are deducted from the money you have in the account.

You can add money at any time, and many will allow you to deposit your paycheck or government check directly.

There are no interest fees, but there may be an initial activation, monthly, or transaction fees. Some will report to the three bureaus, which can help build positive marks.

Secured

These require you to make an initial deposit into your account to cover all or a percentage of your limit. This decreases the lender’s liability and supplies you with purchasing power.

If circumstances prevent you from making an on-time payment, the lender is able to take the payment from your initial deposit. Many do not require a credit check, so you don’t need to be as concerned about your past mistakes.

Some have annual fees and higher than average interest rates. Your activity will be reported to the three bureaus.

Unsecured

These do not require a deposit and are structured to give you a second chance. The limit is typically around $250 – $300, but you will be given the chance to increase this once you have proven you are responsible.

These usually come with an annual fee and high interest rates around 20%. Your activity will be reported to the bureaus.

A prepaid credit card is convenient because it is an alternative to carrying cash or writing checks. The PrimaCard gives easy purchase transactions, it can be used to make free long distance phone calls, withdraw cash from ATM’s, transfer money, and pay bills.

When you deposit money to your card it is then ready to use just like cash. You can reload it at any time and for any amount.

And it can be used wherever MasterCard is accepted, including online retailers and merchants. You won’t have the hassle of writing checks or having to carry cash to cover your expenses.

Phone Calls

One of the best features is that you can use it to place free national and international long distance phone calls. There will never be a need to worry about carrying a phone card again.

When you reload it by depositing cash to the account, you earn free phone calling value. All it takes to start using your accumulated phone time is a call to our toll-free number. You then dial your long distance number and talk to your family and friends.

Reloads

You can arrange with your employer to have your paycheck deposited directly into your account. No more trying to get to your bank before it closes or waiting in long lines.

Your money will be ready to use for bills, groceries, or other necessities when you need it. You can also reload at any Green Dot Network location. The Green Dot Network includes cash locations and well known retailers, such as CVS, Walgreens and Rite-Aid.

Cash from ATM’s

If you prefer to use cash for your expenses, you can use one of the thousands of ATM’s. You will need to use a Personal Identification Number (PIN) for withdrawals.

Bill Paying

If your creditor or utility service accepts MasterCard payments, you can simply call the business and pay over the phone. Another option is to call the toll-free customer service telephone number and make payments that way. You can also make payments from your account online.

Cash Transfers

If you need to send family members cash your account can be connected to additional cards, and you can transfer funds at any time. This is a great idea if you have a college student far from home or a family member who is traveling. You can rest assured they will have access to cash immediately.

You don't have to search very hard to discover a nonprofit debt consolidation organization on the Internet today. This article will firstly concentrate upon resolving how to look for a debt consolidation nonprofit organization and then give an example of an organization which you might wish to work with.

by Frank Froggatt

There are lots of debt consolidation nonprofit organizations which are out there on the Internet today. This article will first off focus upon determining how to search for a debt consolidation nonprofit organization and then give an example of an organization which you might wish to work with.

If you type in the phrase debt consolidation within your search box on the Internet today, you will find tens of thousands of different companies you could work with. When you are considering a debt consolidation nonprofit organization which you would care to work with, you should think about whether or not you are comfortable doing it over the computer or if you would prefer to see someone face to face. You truly want to consider this question seriously because even though it might feel a lot better working with someone face-to-face, you have a lot more options available to you when you look on-line for help. This is something which you want to weigh at once as you set about your search for an organization that you would like to work with. Don’t be hasty with your decision, as this is a very crucial financial decision in your life. If you are inclined to do so you should even pray about this at first as well. The next paragraph will focus upon an example of one company which you can work with either in person or through the Internet.

One of the first companies you want to look at is Consumer Credit Counseling Services. This company is one of the biggest debt consolidation companies in the United States and it does offer free credit counseling. You will find much of their information when searching for debt consolidation nonprofit organizations on the Internet. You will probably not find a consumer debt service that is more highly regarded in the United States for doing business. This is a company in it for the long haul and these are the types of factors you will normally want to consider when looking for a nonprofit organization to work with.

Nonprofit debt consolidation organizations for the most part do offer free services, but you should also think about the cost of taking advantage of their other services. A service may be free but higher interest rates or other fees could be incorporated into the overall fee structure which you would have to pay throughout the time you work with a debt consolidation nonprofit organization. When looking for the different companies that are available to you this is one factor that you really need to be aware of and keep in mind.

Nonprofit debt consolidation organizations are really great resources, but when you are in a financial hardship you really need to consider fully whether you want to pursue this option. The decision of doing a debt consolidation is a major undertaking for anyone, so you have to be very careful in choosing the right company, because you will be putting a lot of faith and time into this process. Most companies you talk to will tell you that consolidation is a good move, but this decision is yours to make you need to make sure that it will help you be successful in the long run financially.

The Bancorp Bank issues the Vision Premier Visa card. This is a prepaid visa and that means that you load money onto it in order to use it.

by Daniel Moskel

The Bancorp Bank issues the Vision Premier Visa card. This is a prepaid visa and that means that you load money onto it in order to use it.

This can be done by direct deposit and PayPal as well as by other means. You can even transfer funds directly from your checking or savings account to the card.

The amount of money which has been transferred to the card minus purchases, fees and other transactions equals the amount available to be used for transactions.

You card is only good for the amount of money you have loaded onto it. This Visa card has many features.

There is no opening minimum, no application fee, and no annual fee. There is not a loading fee when you use direct deposit, PayPal or PreCash.

Likewise, there is no weekly maintenance fee when you use direct deposit or when you have 15 or more transactions per month. Adversely, there is a $1.95 fee for ATM use as well as a $.95 fee for each ATM balance inquiry (You can sign up for free balance alerts which are delivered to you either via email or your cell phone).

The weekly maintenance fee is $.95 if you do not use direct deposit or if you have fewer than 15 transactions per month. Additionally, there is a one-time activation fee of $9.95; however, with the mail-in rebate this becomes zero.

If you want utilize Visions live agent customer service, be prepared to pay a $1.95 fee.

A few things should be noted:

1) this is a debit card only, not to be confused with an unsecured credit card.

2) there is no credit check to obtain this card, approval is guaranteed

3) there will never be any interest or minimum balance fees; and

4) this type of card will not be reported to credit agencies as a credit card.

Good points regarding this card is the ease of obtaining the card (approval is guaranteed), convenience for making online and phone purchases, it is less expensive to use than check cashing services, you receive the same Visa Zero Liability policy as with a credit card, and, unlike a credit card, interest is not charged.

Be aware that the Visa Zero Liability policy does not cover some transactions. However, there are some bad points as well.

You must have money loaded onto the card to be able to use it and, if you need to use an ATM machine to check your balance, you will be charged a $.95 fee. Thus you must always be aware of the balance on the card.

Additionally, this card will not help to improve your credit rating like a traditional or secured credit card. If you plan to use this card to build or repair your credit, you should look at a traditional credit card.

Also, be careful of additional fees which are listed in the Terms and Conditions. Likewise, be aware that if you request a retailer to load money onto the card, you may be liable for additional fees which the retailer may charge.

However, if you are looking for a card to use to easily make purchases, a prepaid card is the way to go. Also, if you have a tendency to overspend when you are shopping, a prepaid card will help you by allowing you to spend only what is loaded onto the card. Paying no interest fees is also a nice feature!

by Dan Moskel

The Ready Debit prepaid Visa card is issued by MetaBank and boasts many amenities. When you sign up for the Ready Debit card with direct deposit you get free online bill pay, free online check writing, access to over 1 million ATMs and no overdraft fees.

The Readydebit card is a prepaid debit card, this means that you must load money onto the card in order to use it. You can do this via direct deposit, Visa ReadyLink and Green Dot MoneyPaks. You can also transfer money directly from your checking or savings account.

As it is a prepaid card, you must deposit money on the card in order for you to access the funds. The amount of money which has been transferred to the card minus purchases, fees and other transactions equals the amount available to be used for transactions.

This is really good because then you are not spending more than you really want to. Unlike credit card companies which encourage you to borrow money and pay interest and other fees on the borrowed money.

A prepaid card is only good for the amount which you have loaded. They offer two plans; the Basic and the Select. There is a one-time, $9.95 card issuance fee with both plans.

There will be a monthly service charge of $4.95 with the Basic plan and $8.95 with the Select plan. For a $10 you can request a second card with the Select plan; however, this amenity is not offered with the Basic.

You may also request a replacement card for a $10 fee. PIN transactions will incur a $.95 charge with the Basic, but are free with the Select.

Also, ATM withdrawals in the United States will cost a $2.25 fee while ATM withdrawals outside of the United States will cost a $5 fee. Balance inquiries within the United States will incur a $.50 charge with the Basic, but are free with the Select.

In addition, there are many free services with both plans, such as signature transactions, negative balance fee, direct deposit, online customer service, and automated phone support. You may not transact purchases or otherwise decrease the amount of the card by more than the balance of the card.

Also, the maximum amount you may withdraw from ATM machines each day is $500. A $2,500 per day spending limit is placed on the card.

Electronic statements are available at their website. Paper statements are available, however, there is a $2 fee/per statement for this service.

by Hugh Grapling

Foreclosure can be pretty alarming and intimidating if you’re not sure what’s going to happen next. If you are aware of the steps leading up to foreclosure, you can do something to prevent it from happening. That’s the reason you have to find the time and energy to study the mortgage foreclosure process.

The first missed payment is also the first step on the path to foreclosure. After a few weeks, you will receive a notice from the lender telling you you’ve missed a payment. If it’s at all possible, pay the past due bill. But if you don’t pay the past due payment, the mortgage company will call. If you speak with them, they will officially announce to you that you are in default. If this is happening to you, contact your lender.

If you reach your lender and explain your hardship, you may be able to get mortgage loan modification. This can save your home from foreclosure. When you’ve missed three months of payments, a lender can set the offical forecluse process in motion. It can take a little more time, but if you keep missing payments you will receive a foreclosure notice eventually.

The problems multiply when you receive your foreclosure letter. You can try to stall it if you decide to attend the court hearing, but you will lose in all probability. The banking company acquires the right to sell your house through an auction when the court hearing is done. At that moment, you only have a couple of days to leave your home. If you stay, you will be forced out by the police.

Talk with your lender before things get to this point. Oftentimes, mortgage loan modification can be a solution to your problems and it would be a pity to squander that opportunity.
Now that the requirement for obtaining a mortgage are tighter than ever before, it’s vital that you have a good credit score. You can repair your credit after making some financial missteps, but the best thing to do is to keep your credit in good shape from the word go. If you are a new credit account holder or already have along credit history, there are some things which can help you to maintain; or restore good credit.

One of the most important things to know about your credit score is that about 35% of it is based on your payment history. Your credit report goes back seven years; but it is the two most recent years which potential creditors will be most concerned with. How late your payments are makes a big difference. A payment which is 30 days late is not too serious, but one which is more than 90 days late is a big problem. Remember, it’s easier to keep your account in good shape than it is to repair it.

The best thing to do is to have different types of accounts and manage them all responsible. You should have a credit card which you keep a very small balance on (or keep paid off every month), along with an installment loan such as a car loan. If possible, you should have a mortgage too. Having several different types of accounts which you are managing well tells creditors that you are a good risk.

Never apply for credit which you do not need. Having too many accounts or making too many applications can negatively impact your credit score. You may also be tempted to use these accounts and get yourself into trouble. Try to avoid the need for credit restoration by only having accounts you actually need.

You should request a copy of your credit report. Look this over carefully and be sure to dispute any item which is inaccurate. You can request that these erroneous items be removed from your report. If there are any small balances outstanding, pay these off.

If there are larger amounts, get in touch with the creditor and try to make a settlement with them. They will often take as much as half of the balance off if you are willing to work with them to repay the debt. While this settlement will still show on your credit report, it’s a lot better than having a debt on your report.

Even with the best of intentions, things will happen from time to time. For reasons entirely beyond your control, you can find your credit rating taking a hit. However, don’t let this discourage you. Credit restoration can get you back on track. Stay determined and you’ll be able to reestablish good credit once again.

With the credit crunch making more difficult than ever to secure a mortgage, it’s never been more important to make sure that you maintain a good credit score. While it is certainly possible to repair your credit after running into trouble, the best thing to do is not to allow your credit score to be damaged in the first place. Regardless of if you have a long and well established credit history or have just gotten your first credit card, there are some things which you should know about keeping your credit in god shape and achieving credit restoration after a misstep.

One of the most important things to know about your credit score is that about 35% of it is based on your payment history. Having several different types of accounts which you are managing well tells creditors that you are a good risk.

You should also avoid applying for any credit which you do not actually need. Opening too many accounts (or even making a large volume of inquiries) will have a negative effect on your credit score. You will also be exposing yourself to the temptation to use these accounts; this can get you into trouble. By only opening accounts you actually need, you can avoid having to use credit restoration.

Have a look at your credit report and check it to be sure that everything there is accurate ? this is a good beginning to any credit restoration plan. If the credit bureau can’t prove that an account is yours, you can have it taken off of your report. If you see small debts which you can afford to repay, pay these off.

If there are larger amounts, get in touch with the creditor and try to make a settlement with them. They will often take as much as half of the balance off if you are willing to work with them to repay the debt.
TransUnion Credit Bureau is one of the big three credit bureaus. They keep a record from all your lenders about your accounts.

by Matt Douglas

TransUnion Credit Bureau is one of the big three credit bureaus. They keep a record from all your lenders about your accounts.

They will record any late payments, missed payments, balance, and all other pertinent information. The lenders send this information to the bureaus.

This data is what is shown on your credit report. Future creditors and employers can look at these reports.

They were founded in 1968. But, back then they were known as Union Tank Car Company, a rail car leasing operation.

That company started TransUnion as its parent holding company. During the next 30 years they grew into one of the world’s leading business intelligence providers maintaining one of the largest collections of consumer information.

In 1969, they acquired the Credit Bureau of Cook County, and started the company we know today. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, they continued to expand.

In 1988, it achieved full coverage in the United States, keeping information on every active consumer in the country. Today, they extend to 25 countries on five continents.

It is privately held, meaning that it is not publicly traded. Their annual sales are in the billions.

It is an excellent idea to watch your credit report. To get a free credit report you can visit Annual Credit Report.

It is not uncommon for there to be an error on your credit report. An estimated that 1 in every 4 Americans has an error.

If you have a mistake you should dispute it with the credit bureau. You need to create a dispute letter and give a reason why the item is in error.

When the bureau receives your letter and deems it valid they will investigate. Often items are removed regardless of their accuracy.

The hard part is getting the bureau to investigate. This is because they must spend potential profits to investigate a dispute.

They have found it more cost effective to erroneously respond to dispute letters and try to frustrate the individual, instead of investigating. The Fair Credit Reporting Act says the bureaus must investigate a dispute.

This is why many consumers who wish to remove questionable items on their report will hire a service to dispute it for them.

In sum if you have a problem with your report you should file a dispute with the credit bureau. You can do this with a letter or hire a service to handle it.

If you have filed bankruptcy you should expect your credit will be severely damaged. However there is hope, you can take action to remove your bad credit and by building some positive credit you can have a high score.

by Matt Douglas

If you have filed bankruptcy you should expect your credit will be severely damaged. However there is hope, you can take action to remove your bad credit and by building some positive credit you can have a high score.

There is a lot of inaccurate information that claims a bankruptcy will be on your report for 10 years. This is not true you can remove it without waiting 10 long years. We suggest that you:

1. Dispute the mark with each bureau.

This is done by sending a dispute letter to the bureau; you can do this yourself or hire a service to do it on your behalf. The bureau will then conduct an investigation into the listing. However bureaus do not check public records when they investigate a dispute, thus the listing will not be verified.

The Fair Credit Reporting Act says that a listing that in not verified must be removed from your report. Additionally this act says that you can dispute any item you feel is inaccurate on your report. It is a common concern about the legality of repairing your credit; you will never have any legal consequence for disputing a listing.

Before you dispute the bankruptcy it is a good idea to make sure that all other negative marks read “included in bankruptcy.” The reason is once the initial bankruptcy mark is removed you will dispute all the other negative items because you do not have a bankruptcy mark on your report. There are rumors that it is much easier to remove this mark after two years.

2. Dispute each negative item.

You can dispute it on the basis that it says “included in bankruptcy”, but you do not have a bankruptcy on your report. Thus each negative mark should be erased once investigated. Doing this will give you a clean slate on your report.

3. Open a new revolving line of credit such as a credit card. This will help you build some positive credit on your report.

With on time payments you will build a positive payment history, this is heavily weighted when your score is calculated. It will also help if you keep your balance under 30% of your limit because this will help your utilization ratio. This means you will have better ratio of available credit to debt.

It may not be the most ethical move to dispute a mark you know is correct. However how ethical is it for a lender to charge you 30% interest rate, especially if you have kept you account in good standing for years. Unfortunately all it takes is one missed payment and you can face fees and interest rates, no matter how long you have been a model customer.

In sum a positive payment history, report clear of derogatory items, and a good ratio of available credit to debt is the recipe for a 700 plus score. This will improve your quality of life by; saving you money on large deposits, high interest rates, and the embarrassment of a denial.
